INTRODUCING ORTHO-BIONOMY: “Doing Less and Being More” Ortho-Bionomy is a gentle form of bodywork based on the osteopathic philosophy and homeopathic principles of stimulating the body’s innate ability to self-heal. Translated Ortho-Bionomy means ‘the correct law of life’, in other words, to be in alignment with our true nature. Sessions are designed to meet the needs of each individual and are compatible with all other healing modalities. Ortho-Bionomy is not about fixing something, but rather is a way of recognizing and supporting that which is inherently alive, well, and whole, providing benefits that: • Break the cycle of pain without causing pain • Ease stress and enhance relaxation • Restore balance and well-being • Integrate physical, emotional, and mental experiences Ortho-Bionomy supports recovery from surgery, injuries and conditions such as sciatica, whiplash, frozen shoulder, Carpal Tunnel and more. Each one of us is unique in our own special way and what can appear to look the same can actually be very different. For example, one person may have a frozen shoulder resulting from physical misalignment and after a few sessions resolve. While another person can also have a frozen shoulder and after the same treatment the pain persists. As we explore further we begin to recognize underlying emotions that are interfering with change. Through exploring, “the motion of the emotion” in the body a new relationship and perception arise, thus releasing the limiting pattern. So if this person is being treated for the physical ailment only, there is no completion. The following true story reveals what happened when this particular person experienced a loss of trust and how that limited her ability to heal. Her name has been changed to protect her identity: Loren was referred by her therapists. She was angry and depressed after a year of receiving various treatments and not improving. She shared with me that she doubted very much that there was anything I could do that would help her. I agreed and said she was right. Truth is, there is no-thing I can offer! As she lay on the massage table I invited her to notice what she noticed in her body. She was stiff and rigid and could barely tolerate the sensations. She doubted herself because as a pedestrian hit by an SUV in a parking lot, the driver denied that she hit her. There were no witnesses and Loren herself could not remember exactly what had happened. I delicately moved her through a series of slow motion movements; little by little she began to remember what happened. As forgotten pieces fell into place, her body adjusted to the freeing effect of newfound change and her spirit brightened. In our time together she learned to negotiate the pain in ways that extended into her life beyond the physicality of her body and our sessions. The barrier she had experienced in her other therapies melted away and she was now showing progress. As she regained a sense of trust, her pain resolved allowing room in her life to cultivate a new way of being with herself and in the world. Our imbalances need not be as complex as Loren’s. Anybody, anytime can experience the freeing effect that a visit provides. An Ortho-Bionomy session is like a little lesson of awareness that can be taken into any area of life. The principle, simple and immediate, supports embodying and living an essential life. A small shift can echo a large movement toward positive change. Ortho-Bionomy provides an easy way to uncover and discover oneself without having to re-enact old patterns on ones path to whole healing. It’s truly a beautiful system of introducing people to the freeing feeling of spaciousness, affecting both body and consciousness.
